The Dales Pony is native to the Yorkshire Dales in the North East of England and related to the Fell Pony. In the last century Dale ponies were used to carry lead from the mines to the ports and were also used for agricultural work.

The Dales is a very hardy breed, an easy-keeper, and possesses great stamina and soundness. They usually have sturdy legs with dense bone and great amounts of silky feathering. The hoof is usually of blue horn.

The Dales has a neat and pony like head, broad between the eyes, witch should be bright and alert. Pony ears slightly incurving, long fortop of straight hair down the face.

Some outcrossing was done to improve the Dales pony for farm work andfor transport. In the 19th century a famous Welsh Cob stallion, Comet, wasbrought to the dales to compete in trotting matches, which were a localsport.

The Dales pony, very similar to the Fell pony, is probably descended from the same ancestors as the Fell, but the two have developed differently.

The Dales Pony is native to the eastern slopes of the English Pennines, known as the Yorkshire Dales. It was originally bred as a pack pony for the flourishing lead industry. A team of up to twenty ponies would be led, untethered, by one rider.

Draft horse breeds are heavily muscled horses used as workhorses. They stand 16 hands or taller and weigh 1,600 pounds or more. Breeds of draft horse include Percherons, Belgians, Shires, Clydesdales and Suffolks.
