The Dole Gudbrandsdal or Dole is a heavy-horse type from Norway.
The stallion is present in all the pedigrees of modern Doles.

The Dole Gudbrandsdal owes much of it current characteristics to the stallion Brimen. They were originally used for pack or agricultural work until the age of mechanization, at which time numbers declined.

It is likely that the Latvian was closely related to the Dole Gudbrandsdal, the North Swedish Horse and other heavy European draft breeds, originally dating back to the prehistoric Forest Horse of Northern Europe.

The Byelorussian Harness horse breed was formed on the basis of the native northern forest-type horses improved by the Dole Gudbrandsdal (from Norway), Ardennes and Brabancon breeds. The Dole influence was the strongest.
