The Dongola is said to be a poorer version of the Barb. However, many believe that the Dongola is a descendant of the Iberian horses, which were found in Egypt and taken from Numidia during the 13th century.

 


Also called the Dongolah & Dongolawi, the Dongala is thought to have come from the Dongala Providence in Sudan & is thought to be a degenerate strain of the mighty Barb with Arabian influence.

DONGOLA HORSE
A light horse typically found in Eritrea or Sudan, the Dongola is generally of a reddish-bay coloration, with blaze and feet being white.

The Sudan Country-Bred is a light righting horse which originated in the African country of Sudan. It was developed during the 20th century from crosses of Arabian and Thoroughbred horses with the Dongola breed.

Djerma Horse
The Djerma is found in middle Niger in western Africa. It is a light horse breed which is predominately dark in coloration. The Djerma originated from the Barb and Dongola breeds.
