The purpose of draft breeding in Holland is to produce a large, massive horse, strong and solidly built.

 


Dutch Draft
The Dutch Draft horse originated in Holland. It used for heavy draft and farm work. The average height is 16 hands high.

The Dutch Draft horse was developed by breeding Zeeland with Belgian horses as well as some Belgian Ardennes.

The Royal Society of the Dutch Draft Horse was formed in 1914 and the purpose was to breed a massive horse with a strong build. Today this is the heaviest of all the Dutch breeds.

This is a relatively young breed which was developed in Holland after 1918. The Dutch Draft is massive and is the heaviest of the Dutch Horses.

Closely resembling the Belgian Heavy Draft, the Dutch Draft was developed from the Zeeland horse with crosses to the Belgian and Belgian Ardennes.

The Dutch Draft Horse is one of those breeds that do not have much past history. Like many modern work horse breeds, this one has a straightforward story.

DUTCH DRAFT HORSE
Developed in Holland, the Dutch Draft Horse is generally used for farm work and heavy draft. They stand at about 16 hands and is the heaviest breed of all Dutch horses.

Dutch Draft horse still bears a similarity to the Brabant horse breed. It was basically used for heavy draft work as it is the heaviest of all Dutch horse breeds.

Traditionally, the Dutch Draft was used for agricultural purposes throughout Holland, especially to plow heavy clay soils which tired many other breeds out.
