Today, the designation "Straight Egyptian" or "Egyptian Arabian" is popular with some Arabian breeders, and the distinct "dry" look of the modern Egyptian-bred Arabian is an outcross used to add refinement in some breeding programs.
There is probably a genetic mechanism for flea-bitten grey that has not been discovered yet as some lines of horses, Egyptian Arabians come to mind, are known for producing heavily flea-bitten greys.
One such breed is the Egyptian Arabian. Although they are often taller than 14.2 hh, they can sometimes be shorter, but are not considered a true "pony" breed.
