Unique characteristic of the Fjord horse is the mane. The center hair of the mane is dark while the outer hair is white. The mane is cut short so it will stand erect.

The Fjord horse is an ancient breed originating from Norway and resembles the Asiatic wild horse depicted in prehistoric cave paintings. The Fjord was used by the Vikings in battle and also for ploughing.

The Fjord pony is one of the few breeds to have kept its identity recognizablythroughout the centuries. It has changed little from the horse the Vikingsbred and used for horse-fights, and is still bred all over its ancestral Norwegian lhomeland.

Fjord
The Fjord horse (known in Norway as a fjording) is a rather short but very strong breed of horse from the mountainous regions of western Norway.

Fjords are almost always brown dun in color. These horses retain the "primitive" markings of their wild ancestors: a black dorsal stripe that runs from the forelock to the tail, and zebra striping on the legs.

The Fjord horse has its own unique conformation, which is a blend of draft horse muscling and bone, with smaller size and greater agility. It has a strong, arched neck, good feet, and a compact, muscular body.

The Fjord is an ancient breed of horse, possibly dating back 4,000 years, and originates from Norway. It's believed to be descended from the Mongolian Wild Horse (Przewalski's Horse), and could also be related to the Tarpan.
