The Fjord pony is one of the few breeds to have kept its identity recognizablythroughout the centuries. It has changed little from the horse the Vikingsbred and used for horse-fights, and is still bred all over its ancestral Norwegian lhomeland.
Fjord Pony PONY OVERVIEW The Fjord Pony is one of the oldest breeds of equids. It bears a striking resemblance to the horses painted on cave walls by ice age artists some 30,000 years ago.

It has an upright mane, which unlike a Fjord pony's, does not fall over if it is not cut. The mane stops between the ears, hence the Przewalski horse has no forelock. The tail of the Przewalski is also different from the domestic horse.
This pony was used by the Vikings for war mounts and they were also thought to be the first western Europeans to use horses for farming and the horses they used were the versatile Fjord pony.
