The Frederiksborg: Danish Horses of Royalty
The Frederiksborg horse is one breed with quite a unique name. It is however more than just a difficult name to remember. The breed name carries the mark of true royalty.

FREDERIKSBORG HORSE
The oldest breed of horse in Denmark, the Frederiksborg breed can be traced all the way back in time to the horses that came from the royal stud at Fredericksborg.

The basis for the new breed was the old Frederiksborg stock crossed with the Thoroughbred to produce an active riding horse that, although it retained some of the Frederiksborg's thickness and carriage character, was temperate and reasonably elegant.

The Frederiksborg breed, when crossed with the Thoroughbred, produced a good quality, slightly heavyweight riding horse. This was then improved further by infusions of Trakehner, Wielkopolski, Selle Francais, and additional Thoroughbred blood.

She proved to pass on her spotted coat when crossed with Frederiksborgs. The resulting horses were tough but intelligent and tractable, and, in general, a close resemblance to the Frederiksborg but more lightly built.

The number of state stallions increased to 100 until the end of the 18th century, including Frederiksborg, Trakehner and Andalusian stallions.
