The Friesian Horse holds it head high and proud with an arching neck. The animated gait is natural. Selective breeding is used to achieve the active hock action and high, extended from leg action. The body is strong and deep with a sloping shoulder.

The Friesian horse was originally introduced to North America in the 17th Century to North America and was ignorantly lost here due to crossbreeding. The Friesian horse did not find its way to North America again until 1974.

The Friesian horse has a distinct personality and temperament. Gentle and serene, it is commonly used to pull light farm carts or carriages.

The Friesian horse has been steadily growing in numbers for several years now and people are starting to wake up and realize what a truly beautiful breed and what a great horse the Friesian really is.

The Friesian horse was introduced to the United States (US) in 1625 into the Dutch Colony of New Amsterdam, which is now known as New York, and is believed to have influenced a number of breeds developed in the US.

One breed, the Friesian Horse, consists exclusively of black horses. These horses, of majestic stature and with long flowing manes and tails, are entirely black with no white markings on the legs or face.

A considerable number of Friesian horses were imported into the north of England either by the Romans or by mercenaries in their employ.

At the beginning of this century, the Dutch government prohibited the exportation of Friesian horses from the Netherlands and to side-step this law, Friesian horses were shipped from the Belgian port of Antwerp in Flanders.

The foundations of the breed, originated in the Gudbrandsdal Valley in Norway, are ancient and probably descended from Dutch Friesian horses.

One of the outstanding characteristics of the Friesian horse is its very long mane and tail. These are never cut and reach the ground. The breed also has abundant feather and long leg hair reaching from the middle of the leg.

Since the early 1900's the Friesian horse has been developed into a more athletic type, which is taller and of lighter build than the traditional horse.
