The Natural Gaited Horse is considered to be a medium sized horse, from 14 - 16.2 hands. The have medium sized bodies with nicely proportioned features. They have soulful eyes and come in all colors and patterns.

Gaited horses are breeds that have the innate penchant to gait, which means the capacity to execute one of the intermediary speed four beat horse gaits, known as ambling gaits.

Gaited Horse Breed Classifications
These horses have a unique gait that results in a smooth and rhythmic comfortable ride. Each breed has a specific synchronous lateral gait that is characteristic to the breed.

Gaited Horses
A "Gaited" horse is one which performs any of the four-beat natural gaits in place of or in addition to the trot. These gaits are the stepping pace, the rack, the running walk, saddle, single-foot, and the fox-trot.

A gaited horse is much more efficient than a non-gaited horse because there is no energy wasted fighting gravity and free fall. This is one reason the gaited horses seem to have more natural stamina than his rough trotting counter part.

Unlike some gaited horses, no action devices, aids or harsh training methods are necessary or allowed. The gait is natural and is bred into the horses through many generations of selective breeding.

These categories are the light, heavy and pony classifications. Some people prefer to further divide some of these categories with classifications such as warmbloods, draft and gaited horse varieties.
