Gidran

Horse German WarmbloodGidran Arabian

Gidran
An exclusively chestnut Hungarian Anglo-Arabian, the Gidran was developed at the Mezohegyes State Stud in 1816 with the import of the desert bred Arabian named Siglavy Gidran. He was believed to be of the Seglawi Jedran strain.

Gidrans have strong body contours. Because of their big body, they have been used as saddle horses. The head is quite small but is relative in size to the body. They have large, clear brown eyes with ears slightly pointed inward.

The Gidran is a Hungarian Anglo-Arabian breed that comes from a combination of Arabian & Thoroughbred bloodlines.
Origins ...

Gidran Senior was described as being "very tempestuous". This reputation has been inherited by his descendants, who are, perhaps more euphemistically, regarded as being "spirited" and "highly-couraged".

The breed was developed from Trakehner, Hanoverian, and English Thoroughbred blood added to local mare stock, or with Furioso amd Gidran mares from Hungary. The progeny were interbred and established the Ukrainian Riding Horse type.

The breed came about when the stud crossed other native Hungarian horses like the Nonius, Kisber Felver, Gidran and Furioso. These breeds have also helped breeds such as the Holsteiner, Hanoverian and Dutch Warmblood.

The Nonius, Furioso-North Star, Shagya, Gidran, and several other strains are often collectively referred to as the Altösterreichische Pferderassen ("Old-Austrian Horse Breeds").

Through selective crossing of native Hungarian horse breeds: Kisber Felver, Gidran, Furioso-North Star, and Nonius to established "warmblood sport horse " breeds such as Holsteiner, Hannoverian, and Dutch Warmblood.

On the other hand, a chestnut Arabian stallion Gidran was crossed with mares that were more of Thoroughbred type and thus founded the Gidran Anglo-Arabian breed.

Plevens are mostly Anglo-Arab, but Gidran stallions were later added to the breed. The breed was officially recognized in 1951, and English Thoroughbred blood was further added to add refinement and size to the Pleven.
