The Hispano, also called the Spanish Anglo-Arab, originated in Spain as a result of a cross between mares of Arab and Andalusian heritage and English Thoroughbred stallions.

It is also likely that in the past there have been infusions of Anglo-Arabian, Salerno (horse) and Hispano (horse) blood into the breed and, more recently, some Nonius and some English Thoroughbred blood.
