The HOLSTEINER horse is the oldext of the German warmbloods, taking its name from the the Elmshorn district of Holstein, the area in which it originated. The principal breeding centre is still in this region.

The Holsteiner originates from Germany, usually reaching 16 to 17 hands. These horses are mildly temperamental and are used for show jumping, dressage and reining. They tend to usually be bay in color, but mostly any solid coloring.

OVERVIEW
The Holsteiner initially evolved from native North German stock and were in high demand by the military and royalty throughout Europe. As demand grew for a lighter horse, infusions of the Yorkshire Coach Horse were used.

Holsteiner: warmblood breed, local in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The breed is a private breed based on local farmers with stallions belonging to the breeder's society at Elmshorn.

The Holstein is a breed of horse originating in the Schleswig-Holstein region of northern Germany. It is thought to be the oldest of warmblood breeds, tracing back to the 13th century.

The Holsteiners usually are a bay, dark bay, or black (although other colors are found) and are 16-17 hands high.

These breeds include the Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Trakehner, Holsteiner, Swedish Warmblood, and Dutch Warmblood.

Through selective crossing of native Hungarian horse breeds: Kisber Felver, Gidran, Furioso-North Star, and Nonius to established "warmblood sport horse " breeds such as Holsteiner, Hannoverian, and Dutch Warmblood.

Till the final development and refinement of the breed many other bloodlines had influence, such as Anglo-Norman, Clydesdale, Holsteiner, Mangalarga Marchador (to bring better refinement to the Campolina) and the American Saddle Horse.

Orinially, Thoroughbreds were crossed with Holsteiner mares to improve the quality of horses for cavalry and farming.

The Holstein, also known as the Holsteiner Warmblut (literally the Holstein Warmblood) is a breed that was developed in Germany for calvary purposes. Over the years, however, it has been brought to, and flourished in, other countries.

Some of the popular breeds are Anglo-Arab, Holsteiner, Trakehner and Hanoverian. These breeds are used for dressage, jumping, combined training and combined driving. Warmbloods combine Thoroughbred and Arabian blood with draft breeds.

This horse is also known by the name of Holsteiner. This is the oldest of the German warmblood horse breeds. It is well-loved for its brilliance in show jumping and cross country competitions.

Warmblood -- a general term for European breeds of sport horses. Examples include Dutch Warmblood, Hanoverian, and Holsteiner.
Welsh Pony -- a pony originating in Wales; excellent for riding and commonly used as a children's mount.

Later on the resulting mares were bred to Europe's finest riding horse bloodlines of Anglo-Norman, Trakehner and Anglo Arabs but also Hanoverians, Holsteiner and Westfalian and Dutch stallions.
