A field hunter, or a fox hunter, is a type of horse used in the hunt field for foxhunting. It may be of any breed, but should possess stamina, a level head, and bravery.

The frame of the show hunter differs from that of dressage horses, eventers, and show jumpers, as it travels in a long and low frame, with its head moderately extended.

The Irish Hunter, or Irish Horse, originated in Ireland, and is the result of a cross between the English thoroughbred and Irish Draft horses.

Both as hunter and showjumper the Irish horse - even today a type ratherthan a breed - is internationally acclaimed.

The Irish Hunter stands between 16 and 17 hands high (64-68 inches, 163-173 centimeters). Irish Hunters come in a variety of colors including piebald and skewbald. The profile of the Irish Hunter’s head is well-proportioned.

The Irish horse or as it is sometimes known the Irish Hunter is a cross breed resulting from the breeding of an Irish draught horse with the Thoroughbred.

As the breed developed and their popularity grew the Canadian Hunter, Saddle & Light Horse Improvement Society was organized in 1926. In 1933 this was incorporated into the Canadian Hunter Society which established a studbook.

PONY: Reflects conformation associated with the Thoroughbred horse and Connemara Pony.

hunter class -- a judged class in which the English horse-and-rider pair must negotiate a course of fences with willingness, regularity, and style.

The Hunter Breed Classification
A hunter is a large, clean-cut horse bred for cross-country riding and jumping. It moves boldly and briskly and has a long purposeful stride.

HUNTER TYPE: Pinto is an animal suitable for: hunter seat Events; western events; and a variety of other events. The Hunter Type Pinto should display the conformation associated with Thoroughbred, approved Warmblood or running Quarter Horse breeding.

Hunter : a horse bred and trained to be ridden for hunting.
Mare : a female horse four years old or over.
Mane : the long hair growing on the top of a horse's head and down the neck.

The hunters could also run the horses down these narrow roads until they were close enough to be roped out of the windows or until they dropped from exhaustion.

Common uses for this horse include dressage, hunter/jumper, saddle seat, and fine harness disciplines. Saddlebreds are able to move in a flashy and high-stepping gait pattern and are also called the "peacock" of horse breeds.

I'm sure my successful Appaloosa eventers, hunter/jumper and dressage horses would be surprised to learn they are/were not suitable for those disciplines. Not to mention the Appaloosa racing industry! ...

This horse is mostly bred for performance and even though it is not very large in population, is a dominant force in performing activities such as show jumping, dressage, combined driving, show hunters and eventing.
