Uses of Irish Cob
The Irish Cob used to pulls wagons or Caravans. These days, the Irish Cob is not used for pulling anymore and is widely used for riding. Being a versatile horse, it is also used as a riding horse for children.

 


The Irish Cob’s physique is perfectly-suited for draft work and farming: a small compact frame with short, robust legs and muscular withers.

An Irish Cob is ample boned and well-muscled, they are both compact and powerful with possession of a wide range of abilities in different disciplines. They have an imposing appearance with a stocky, explosive body carried proudly.

These horses are also called a Gypsy Cob (USA ), Irish Tinker Horse, (in Germany and Netherlands), Irish Cob, Piebald (in Ireland), or Gypsy Vanner (USA). They are bred for strength and docility, and the typical horse measures 14.0 - 15.0 hands.

A number of cob breeds are popular in the UK, including the Welsh cob, the Irish Cob and the "Coloured Cob" or "Gypsy Cob," known in the USA as the Gypsy vanner horse.

Isabelle is a beautiful TB/Irish Cob of approx. 15.3hh. She is about 9 years old and had been bought from a dealer about 2 years ago. At first she was a very sweet and easy to handle mare.

Gypsy Horse (Irish Tinker horse, also known as Irish Cob, Piebald (in Ireland), or Gypsy Vanner (in USA)) is a breed with its origin among the traveling Gypsies of the British Isles.

The breed of horse known as gypsy vanner horses (aka Tinker horse, Irish Cob, Piebald) were originally bred to pull gypsy caravans throughout the United Kingdom.

Tinker is now considered a derogatory term when referring to the Travellers, however the name has remained in use for their horses, although they are sometimes called Irish Cobs, Gypsy Cobs or similar variations.
