Jianchang foals grow more slowly than other horse breeds, so it is important to give more attention to one-year olds, especially during winter when they are most vulnerable.

The Jianchang is a relatively short horse, standing only about 14 hands high. They are mostly bay, although they are sometimes black, and very rarely do other colors occur. Very little else is known about this breed.

Smaller than both the Lijiang and Jianchang, the Guangxi pony is found in the Yunnan Province and the Sichuan Province in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region within China. The smallest known Guangxi is 86 cm, with the average hieght about 100cm.
It is even smaller than the Jianchang and Lijiang, with a wither height of about 100 cm, the lowest being 86 cm, as observed in a survey conducted at Jingxi. Further studies are necessary on these interesting ponies.
