The Kabardin is known as The World's Best Mountain Horse. It is a sure-footed, economical animal. They are one of Russia's "extreme" breeds, meaning that they can live and work under extreme conditions.

Kabardins are kept in herds, and they have uncanny herd instincts. If stolen, they can escape and find their way to their herd in several months' time, even when feted. It is safe to say that the Kabardin is the world's best mountain breed.

This breed was created in the northern regions of Caucasus in Russia by crossing Kabarda mares with Thoroughbred stallions at the Malokarachaevski and Malkin studs.

Kabardian (Horse) or Kabardin
The Kabardian horse breed is a breed from the Caucasus, currently part of Russia and Georgia.

The Anglo-Kadarba, or "Anglo-Kabardinskaya" as its known in its native Russia, is a breed best known for its endurance. It was bred by crossing Kadarba mares with Thoroughbred stallions and retains the best characteristics of both breeds.

The breed is thought to be a cross-breeding of Akhal-Teke, Persian, Kabardin, Turkoman Horse, and Arabian horse. It also influenced the development of the Russian Don horse in the 19th century.

This is a native North Caucasian breed found mainly in the Kabardino-Balkar Autonomous Republic and in the foothills area of Stavropol territory.

Along with other Russian breeds, such as the Kabardins and Bashkirs, they surpassed the best European breeds.

For a European or American horse expert to assess an Akhal-Teke requires a conversion. For Russians used to Dons, Orlovs, Kabardins, and an array of other Russian equine stalwarts, understanding Akhal-Tekes is no problem.

It was further improved by three Arabian stallions: Marosh, Nasim, and Koheilan. The Tersk has also been continually improved by Kabardin, Thoroughbred, Arabian, and Russian Don blood. By 1948, the breed was officially recognized.
