It is likely that the Karabair developed through a mixture of Arabian and Mongol blood, later influenced by the desert horse breeds from the neighbouring countries, such as the Turkomene, and further infusions of Arab blood.

 


Karabair
The Karabair is one of the most ancient breeds of Central Asia. Developed in Uzbekistan and northern Tajikistan the breed was established under the influence of southern and steppe breeds.

Karabair horses have short but wide backs, long polls, well-develop loins, well-developed forequarters, and cow-hocked hindquarters.

Of the most ancient breeds in Central Asia is the Karabair. The breed was established with the influence of several southern and steppe breeds in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

It was originally a mix of Central Asian bloodlines, but then it was improved by Persian or Iomud blood, and then by the Karabair. More recently, Lokai horses are crosses with Arabian, Thoroughbred, and Tersk stallions.

Since then Kazakh horses were influenced by many breeds - Mongolian, Karabair, Arabian and Akhal-Teke. In the late 20th century, Kazakh horses have been improved by the Thoroughbred, Orlov Trotter and Russian Don.

The Akhal-Teke thoroughbred significantly influenced the development of cultured horse-breeding in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and other counties of the East. Among these are the Karabair, Lokai, Naiman, Karabach, and Kabardin.

The Trakehner has also been influenced by the Akhal-Teke, most notably by the stallion Turkmen-Atti, as has the Russian breeds Don, Budyonny, Karabair, and Karabakh.
