Kiso Horse
The Kiso horse has inhabited Japan for about one thousand years and has in the past been an indispensable aid for farm use, transportation, and power. Exact origin of the Kiso and other ancient horse breeds of Japan is uncertain.
The Kiso breed originated from Japan. The main uses for this horse are riding and light draft work. Nevertheless, the Kiso has been used for agricultural or farm work; it has also been used for military purposes.
The Kiso Horse has been in Japan for over a millennia and in the past was an indispensable aide to the people for agriculture & transportation. Their name comes from the Kiso river that runs through the area where they originated.

There are records of horses being raised systematically in the Kiso region of Nagano Prefecture as early as the 6th century.

A Japanese breed, the Kiso has inhabited Japan for at least 1,000 years. Their exact origin is not known, but it is believed that they are descendants of the Mongolian horses of the grasslands or the plateau horses of Central Asia.
