The Kushum breed was developed at Pytimarsk and Furman studs in Urals region of Kazakhstan from 1931 to 1976. The breed was developed largely from trotter, Thoroughbred, Russian Don, Budyonny and Kazakh breeding.

The Kushum Horse breed developed at the Pytimarsk and Furman studs in the Ural mountains, in Kazakhstan, from 1931 to 1976. The breed originated mostly from the trotter, Thoroughbred, Don, Budyonny, and Kazakh horses.
