Lithuanian Heavy Draft history
The Lithuanian Heavy Draft originated in Russia at the end of the 19th century and has only been registered since 1963.

 


Lithuanian Heavy Draft Horse
The Lithuanian Heavy Draft horse belongs to a breed which was fashioned in Lithuania during the 19th and 20th centuries. They are chiefly used for heavy draft and farm work.

Lithuanian Heavy Draft
This breed was developed in Lithuania by crossing Zhumudka horses with the Swedish Ardennes. The third and fourth generation crossbreds (2nd and 3rd backcrosses) were bred inter se.

The Lithuanian Heavy Draft comes from Lithuania and was developed by crossing Zhmud animals with Swedish Ardennes. The result was a heavy draft of a hardy size but well proportioned.

LITHUANIAN HEAVY DRAFT
When breeders crossed the Swedish Ardennes with the Zhumudka horses, the Lithuanian Heavy Draft horse was the result.

Lithuanian Heavy Draft - chestnut or bay

The breed was officially recognized as a heavy draft breed in 1952. The same breeding techniques were used by the USSR to create the Estonian Draft and Lithuanian Heavy Draft breeds.
