Lusitano Horse

The Lusitano is an ancient breed of horse native to Portugal that is filled with tradition. It has historical links to the military, to bullfighting and to the classical training methods of the "Haute Йcole".

The Lusitano is one of Portugal's two domestic breeds of horses - the other being the Alter-Real. The Lusitano is used under saddle, in harness and for light agricultural work.

Favory blood lineage returned to Kladruby after the WWII, when the Kladruber population was reduced. Rudolfo, Lusitano imported from Portugal after the WWII, also has several daughters which are submitted into the Kladruber studbook.

Good jumping horses include thoroughbreds, lusitanos and hot-blooded horses. Call local jumping stables and ask for inventory, as it's simpler to review many horses in one barn than having to go to several barns to look at just one horse each time.

The horse breeds that are trained and accordingly perform the the airs above the ground include the Andalusians, Lipizzan and Lusitano.
