Morgans trace back to a single foundation sire, a horse named Figure [5]. The stallion was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts in 1789. There is far less mystery about Figure's ancestry than is popularly supposed.

 


Morgans come in a variety of colors although they are most commonly bay, black, brown, and chestnut. Gray, palomino, cremello, perlino, smoky cream, silver dapple, sabino, frame overo, dun, and buckskin are also seen.

Morgans are characteristically between 14:1 and 15:1 hands, although they range from 13 to 17 hands. They appear more compact than other breeds.

Morgans are gentle horses with an edge. As warmbloods, they have a cooler disposition, but sometimes are easily excitable.

All Morgans trace back to a single foundation sire, a stallion named Figure, who was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts in 1789.. He was at one time owned by a man named Justin Morgan.

All Morgans can trace their ancestry to a single shire named Figure, a small bay stallion born in Massachusetts in 1789.

Today, Morgans have few wildernesses to conquer or wars to win, but they still accomplish great deeds.

Registered Morgans come in a variety of colors although they are most commonly bay, black, and chestnut. Less common colors include gray, palomino, roan, cremello, perlino, dun, buckskin, and silver dapple.

Morgans were used for a variety of purposes because of their agreeable temperament. However, in the 1840's, Morgans were used in the sport of harness racing eventually setting world trotting records.

Also blessed with ground-covering gaits, the Morgans were able to cover many miles day after day at steady rate of speed. This ability, combined with a businesslike attitude to get the job done, made them a favorite horse of all work.

In the hands of American colonists, Morgans cleared rugged Vermont mountainsides and converted them into rich farmland. But they weren't mere workhorses, Morgans had the style and elegance to capture the admiration of any city horseman.

Light riding horses such as Arabians, Morgans, or Quarter Horses usually range in height from 14.0 (142 cm) to 16.0 hands (163 cm) and can weigh from 386 kilograms to about 540 kg (850 to 1200 lb).

Thats what the morgans carry. The first morgans were shorter and stockier, made for work (resembling the Quarter Horse) but the new (Show) Morgans are absolutley stunning. Very elegent and clean cut.

2 hands and there are a wide variety of colors and markings common to Morgans and Arabians. The Morab body is compact, of medium length, well-muscled, smooth and stylish. Large, dark expressive eyes are set off by a wide forehead.

The Tennessee Walking Horse was developed from Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Standardbreds, Saddlebreds, canadian Packers and Narragansett Pacers owned by settlers in the 18th century.

A fusion of Thoroughbreds, Canadian Pacers, Saddlebreds, Morgans, American Standardbreds and Narragansett Pacers, this docile servant evolved in the middle Tennessee bluegrass region, and therefore christened the "Tennessee Walking Horse".

For years before the Missouri Fox Trotter was actually standardized as a type (the stud book opening in 1948) settlers interbred with Morgans, Thoroughbreds, Arabians, and Spanish horses.

Horses such as Peruvian Pasos, Paso Finos, Arabians, Morgans and ponies are prone to insulin resistance. This problem can also be treated as genetic. However, insulin resistance in horses is not an uncommon disease.

Quarter Horses, Morgans and American Saddlebreds are just few of the many Warmblood horses, which have been bred into very high standards in the U.S. Here we are going to talk about the American Warmblood Horse, also known as a sport horse.

I've had Morgans, generally regarded as extremely gentle, that were totally unmanageable. On the other hand, one of the sweetest, calmest horses I've ever handled was a Thoroughbred, a breed usually regarded as high-strung and nervous.

Aside from the face, Morgans are noted for their compact and refined builds. These bodies include very strong limbs, which give the breed its characteristic strength, beyond most horses of its size. Typically, Morgans will stand from 14.1 to 15.

Today, Morgans are 14 to 15:1, with Arabian-like heads, very deep bodied, with a unique combination of draft-like substance and Saddlebred-like elegance.

Originating from a cross of Arabians and Morgans, a common misconception surrounding the Morab is that it is not a breed, but a half-breed. The Morab has its own registry and when bred, reliably pass along distinguishing characteristics.

Morgans are an incredibly versatile breed and they often compete in many different disciplines across the equestrian world, including eventing, dressage and showjumping.

Although many breeds such as Arabians and Morgans are shown in romel reins, American Paint Horses and Quarter Horses showing in pleasure classes have been shown almost exclusively in split reins since the 1970s.

These additions were probably Morgans, light draft horses, Thoroughbreds, and the old, eastern sort of Quarter Horse. The main type of ranch horse was bred increasingly away from its Spanish base.

Morabs (the get of an Arabian/Morgan breeding) are not half-Morgans or half-Arabian horses. They are Morabs, a breed.

Sabino occurs in many breeds including Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Akhal Tekes, Tennessee Walking horses, Spanish Mustangs, Quarter Horses, and Morgans. In fact there are few breeds in which Sabino is absent, Icelandic Horses being one.

Light horses such as Arabians, Morgans, Quarter Horses, Paints and Thoroughbreds usually range in height from 14.0 to 17.0 hands, and can weigh up to 1300lbs (about 595kg).

Morgans are used as all-purpose light horses and are very popular on cattle ranches. Their average height is just under 15 hands (60 in./150 cm), and their average weight is about 1,000 lb (450 kg). Bay, chestnut, and black are common colors.

Missouri Fox Trotter
This wonderful breed was developed by early American settlers, originally mixing Morgans and Thoroughbreds beginning in the 1820's. Later, they introduced the Saddlebred and Tennessee Walking Horse blood.

There is no true Missouri Fox Trotter "type;" some Fox Trotters have a stock horse type conformation, some are more like Morgans.

The origin of the Morgan horse breed goes back to 1 stallion, named Figure, born in Massachusetts in 1789. Morgans were used in the Pony Express and in the cavalry.

They are used for show, park, pleasure riding, trail, western and endurance riding. Arabs hold most of the 100-mile endurance ride records. Other breeds in this type include American Saddlebred and Morgans.
