Mule
In its common modern meaning, a mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. Compare hinny - the offspring of a male horse and a female donkey.
Mule Deer have large ears that move constantly and independently, from whence they get their name, "Mule" or "Burro Deer.
The Mule is a cross between a donkey stallion (called a jack) and a horse mare. Hinnies are just the opposite - a stallion horse crossed to a donkey jennet.
What is a mule?
When a jack [ungelded male donkey] is bred to a mare, the resulting
offspring is a mule; however, flip the equation, breeding a stallion to a
jenny [female donkey] and the foal will be a hinny. Aren't they the same
thing though?
Mule: The hybrid animal produced when a male ass (Jack) is crossed with a female horse. The mule is a sterile hybrid, meaning it cannot reproduce. Mules come in both male and female.

The Mule has been described as being without ancestry and posterity. The fact that the mule is sterile does not lessen the value of the role it has played in history.
Mule mares pass along 100% of their maternal genes to their offspring, rather than a mix. Since a mule's mother is a horse, as a rule mule mares pass genes which are 100% horse to their foals.
Mule trains, for land travel, and barges, for river and canal travel, were the most common form of long-distance haulage, although wheeled horse-drawn vehicles were used for shorter journeys.
