Mustang Horse

Mustang horses are probably the most well known wild horse in the United States. The name "Mustang" is derived from the Spanish words "mesteсo" or "monstenco" which is synonymous for "stray", "ownerless" or "wild.

Mustang Horses (American Indian Horses or Spanish Horses) were brought to the New World by the Spanish in the 1500s. These were the best horses of that time - a mixture of Barb, Arabian, and Andalusia blood.

"Mustang" is the name that was given to the feral horses of America that first appeared during the 16th century. They are descended from the Spanish horses, which were brought to America by the conquistadors.

A mustang is a small, hardy, naturalized (feral) horse of the North American west. Because of their hardiness, grace, speed, and independence, the name "Mustang" is popular for high-performance products and for sports mascots.

The mustang of today has very little, if any, Spanish links as most are the results of domestic stock escaping or being turned loose.

The Mustang descended from horses brought to the Americas by the Spanish Conquistadors over 400 years ago. In the 1500s, Spanish explorers and settlers moved into North America, bringing their horses with them.

Its conformation and its background set it apart from the mustang, Spanish Barb or other wild horses. Small and stocky, the Cayuse Indian Pony has high withers and an unusually long canon bone.

Curly Horses were orignally discovered by white men in the mustang herds of eastern Nevada, in the late 1800s. These Curlies were rounded up, along with other mustangs, and trained to be ranch horses.

She observed American cowboys putting wild mustangs in crates with only their heads protruding and then filling the crate full of wheat via an overhead silo. Then they were subjected to bags etc swinging toward their faces.

The Abacos are part of the Colonial Spanish horses that include the Spanish Barbs, Spanish Mustangs, Banker Wild "ponies", the Florida Crackers and the Carolina Marsh Tackys.

Sabino occurs in many breeds including Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Akhal Tekes, Tennessee Walking horses, Spanish Mustangs, Quarter Horses, and Morgans. In fact there are few breeds in which Sabino is absent, Icelandic Horses being one.

The American Indian Horse has gone by many names: Indian, Spanish or cow pony, mustang or buffalo horse, they are basically the same animal.

Appaloosa is a colour breed said to have descended in the Nez Percé Indian territory of North America from wild mustangs, which in turn descended from Spanish horses brought to the New World by explorers. The Appaloosa is 14.2 to 15.

Many escaped into the wild and became part of the Mustang herds of the United States.
Height: They vary in height and can be ponies or horses.

Arabian horses are one of the oldest breeds in history, and they have played an integral role in the founding bloodlines of many other breeds, including the mustang and the American quarter horse.

The 'Quarter Mile Horse' was further bred with mustangs of the Old West. The offspring were found to be very good with cattle, as well as containing the speed and the hardiness of their forebears.

According to one historian, one of those horses was white and sorrel with spots on its belly. It is believed that this horse bred with American Mustangs thereby creating the foundation of the American Paint Horse breed of today.

Mustangs are genetically engineered for this condition so that they can put on fat stores in times of plenty to rely on when food is sparse. This leads us to believe that genetics play a large role in insulin resistance.

It is claimed that descendants of these horses spread north through the United States via traders who bartered them with native Indians for goods, and as wild mustangs, only to be caught and tamed by the Nez Perce tribe.
