The breed was founded on an autochthonous Greek variety very possibly related to the Pindos, and later crossed with Anglo-Arab, Anglo-Norman and Nonius strains. Its herdbook was only established in 1995.

 


The Peneia Pony (Greek: αλογάκι Ï"ης Πηνείας) is a rare breed of pony from the Peloponnese in southern Greece. Peneia is a poetic name for the peninsula, often found in classical texts.

The Peneia Pony (Greek: αÎ"ογάκι Ï"Î-Ï‚ Î Î-νείας) is a rare breed of pony from the Peloponnese in southern Greece.

The Peneia, an old breed found in the semi-mountainous regions of Eleia in the Peloponnese, are probably related to the Pindos pony of Greece but are rarer and exist in very few numbers.

PENEIA: Peneia, in the Peloponnese, has its own breed of pony which isused for farm work and as a pack pony. It is of Oriental type, a lightweightpony which does well on poor fare, is a willing worker, and is extremelyhardy.

The Pinia is found in western Peloponnese in Greece. A variety of the Greek Pony with Anglo-Arab, Anglo-Norman and Nonius breeding introduced early in the 20th century.

Peneia - roan, chestnut, and black, rarely bay or brown.
*Percheron - gray, occasional black or bay without white markings
*Periangan - all colors found
*Persian Arab - gray or bay
Peruvian Paso - bay, chestnut, brown, black, gray ...
