Horse PercheronsPersian Arab

- Persano -
The Persano is a breed that originated in Italy, in the Salerno area. Very little is known about this breed, and there is very little information provided on it.

[edit] Persano Stud
At the Persano Stud, a combination of the local stock and Lipizzaners were introduced to the Salerno breed. There were three stallions that were influential on Salernos at the stud.

The Persano Stud was closed in 1864, and people stopped breeding Persano horses there.
20th Century influences ...

It was at the Persano Stud where a blend of local stock and Lippizzans was introduced to the Salerno breed. At the stud, three Lippizzan stallions were predominantly prominent on the Salerno horse.

Also called the Persano, the Salerno horse comes from the Campania region of Italy in the 18th century. These animals were based on the Neapolitan horse (also a foundation for the Lipizzaner).
Origins ...

At that time, people began to selectively breed at the Persano Stud. The solid foundation base stock was made up of Neopolitan, Spanish, and Oriental blood. This breed was promoted by King Charles III, who was the King of Naples, and Spain.
