Peruvian Paso Horse

The Peruvian Paso originated in Peru, from the horses that were first brought to Peru in 1532 by the Spanish adventurer Franciso Pizarro.

The Peruvian Paso is a popular breed of gaited horses. This breed is outstandingly smooth and has great stamina. It isn't a large horse nor is it skittish, thus making it a fitting mount for anyone. Another popular breed is the Icelandic horse.

Horses such as Peruvian Pasos, Paso Finos, Arabians, Morgans and ponies are prone to insulin resistance. This problem can also be treated as genetic. However, insulin resistance in horses is not an uncommon disease.

The timing of foot falls is similar to the paso llano of the Peruvian Paso Horse. Batida means to hit and describes the gait considered to be a broken trot.

Each breed has a specific synchronous lateral gait that is characteristic to the breed. Some gaited breeds are Paso Fino, Peruvian Paso, Tennessee Walking Horse, Missouri Fox Trotter and Rocky Mountain Horse.
