Around mid 20th century, the Pinto Horse Associations was created to protect the painted horse. This organization accepts any horse that presents any of the coat pattern presented above, except solids.
And every pinto in today's growing herd bears his unmistakeable stamp.
According to Gayle Cottman, "They all look just like Castle." She was delighted when she saw the first photos.
Colors:
Pinto markings in overo, tobiano, or tovero coat patterns. Specific colors include bay, black, brown, dun, chestnut, buckskin, palomino, grullo, sorrel, grey or roan.

The term pinto refers more to coat color than to a specific horse breed. Nonetheless, pinto horses have become so popular that they have become as prized as specific breeds.
Paints, like Pintos, are described as overo or tobiano, depending on the pattern of their coloring. Besides piebald and skewbald, there are the types "overo " and "tobiano.

American Paint Horse - Best known for its pinto patterns, the paint horse is one of the fastest growing horse breeds in the United States. The coloring of this breed is typically white combined with any other coat color.
All of these characteristics suited the Paint as well, but the AQHA would not include horses with pinto coat patterns or those with white body spots or any white above the hocks and knees in the breed.
