Przewalski's Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii or sometimes E. przewalskii), also known as the Mongolian Wild Horse, or Takhi, is the closest living relative of the Domestic Horse and is in fact the same species.
Przewalski's horse is similar to the domestic horse though it has a smaller, more robust build, and upright mane, and a low-set tail. The most common colors are sandy tan, dun, and reddish bay.
Also called Equus Przewalskii, Asiatic Wild horse, Mongolian Wild Horse and Taki, the Przewalski's Horse is the only known surviving species of wild equine on the planet since the extinction of the Tarpan.

The Przewalski's Horse is the only surviving subspecies of horse that has never been domesticated. They became known to the world when a Polish naturalist named Przewalski discovered a wild herd of these animals.
This primitive horse (it has 66 chromozomes instead of 64) was thought to have been hunted to extinction by Mongolian tribesmen, until a small herd was discovered in 1881 on the edge of the Gobi Desert by the Russian Explorer, Col. N. Przewalski.

The Przewalski is a heavily built horse. It stands typically between 12 and 14 hands. Its color is beige-brown or dun with a light colored muzzle. It has a black stripe over its back, called "eel-stripe" and stripes across its legs like a zebra.
The Przewalski Horse (Equus przewalskii Poliakov) or Takhi as the Mongolians name them is rather small, sturdy animal with a short, strong neck.
ORIGIN
The Przewalski's Horse is native to Mongolia in the Western Gobi desert. It is the oldest form of equid in existence and is most closely related to the prehistoric horse. Its existence has been documented in art since the Ice Age.
