Quagga (761 words)
Quaggas obtained their name from their warning cry, which sounded like 'Kwa-ha-ha.

The Quagga
Captive quaggas were very tame, and a pair of quaggas were used in harness in London in the 1800's.

The southernmost subspecies, the quagga (Equus burchelli quagga) of South Africa, is also extinct.

These types are Grevy's Zebra, the Mountain Zebra, Burchell's Zebra and the Quagga. Unquestionably, the Zebra is the most exotic of the Equids.

The handsome striped equids of Africa fall into three distinct species: Grevy's zebra (Equus grevyi), the plains or Burchell's zebra (Equus burchelli =Equus quagga), and the mountain zebra (Equus zebra). Of these, the Grevy's zebra is most distinct.

Equus asinus - Ass or donkey
Equus burchelli - Burchell's zebra
Equus grevyi - Grevy's zebra
Equus hemionus - Kulan, with it's subspecies Equus hemionus onager, Onager
Equus kiang - Kiang
Equus quagga - Quagga
Equus zebra - Mountain zebra ...

Plains Zebra is the most common, and has or had about five subspecies distributed across much of southern and eastern Africa. It, or particular subspecies of it, have also been known as the Common Zebra, the Dauw, Burchell's Zebra and the Quagga.
