The founding sire was Shagya, a partbred Arabian stallion with some ancestors of the Kehilan and Siglavy strains. Born in Syria in 1830, he was tall for an Arabian. Shagya stood 15.2-1/2 hands high (62 1/2 inches at the withers).

This breed was originated by a single English Thoroughbred stallion named Messenger who was brought to America in 1788 and bred to local animals.

This breed has only existed since the middle of the 20th century. Crossing a Appaloosa and a Shetland pony developed it. The founding sire, was the offspring of a Shetland stallion and a Appaloosa mare, named Black Hand.

Hambletonian is considered the founding sire of the Standardbred breed. The Standardbred stud book was officially formed in 1939 and this breed has influenced such breeds as the French Trotter and Russian Orlov.

As mentioned above, Morgan horses can all trace their lineage back to one horse, a stallion by the name of Figure. Figure was probably birthed by an Arabian mare by way of a Thoroughbred sire, although no one is really sure.
