The Swedish Warmblood originated from the imports of horses into Sweden around the 17th century. Spanish and Friesian imports produced active and strong horses when crossed with the local mares who were small and rough.

The history of the Swedish horse closely follows that of humans in the region. Archeological evidence has been found for the existence of horses in what is now Sweden dating to 4,000 B.C.

The Swedish Warmblood

Breeders of the Swedish Warmblood Horse have good reasons to be proud.

The Swedish Warmblood has been the subject of rigorous selective breeding to improve the stock. The horse has an attractive head with a long, well-formed neck.
Origin: Sweden.
Colour: bay, brown, chestnut or grey.

Elegance, combined with excellent gaits and a positive attitude, jumping ability and capacity to absorb training make the Swedish Warmblood (SWB) well suited for international equestrian sports, and dressage in particular.

Today, the Swedish Warmblood is one of the finest riding and competition horse breeds in existence.

The Swedish Warmblood, along with the Swedish Ardennes and the North Swedish Horse, is one of the few breeds to have a stud book in Sweden.

The Swedish Warmblood is a horse that was developed at Strömsholm and Flyinge. It descends from imported stock in the 17th century.

THE SWEDISH WARMBLOOD
The Swedish Warmblood was descended from horses imported in the 17th century and was originally a better-than-average cavalry horse.

The Swedish Half-bred horse is also known as Swedish Warmblood. This is a horse that was developed in Sweden, particularly at Flyinge and Stromsholm. This horse breed descends from an imported stock in the 17th century.

But the horse is not exactly meant to grace with his presence fancy air-conditioned stables, and to be fed in a way that suits German or Swedish warmbloods.

I was once shocked by a Swedish lady who arrogantly brushed aside all my arguments that Akhal-Tekes should not be bred in Scandinavia, lest she wanted them to turn into another Swedish warmblood in a generation or two, i.e.

They became an entire class of horse as well as breeds, such as the Swedish Warmblood. All coach horses are warmbloods, draft horses are too slow, and even for a curricle, an Arabian or Thoroughbred is too light.

Influential stallions include Abglanz for the Hanoverian, Herbststurm who influenced the Oldenburg, Marco Polo for the Dutch Warmblood, the stallions Ibikus and Donauwind for the Danish Warmblood, and Polarstern for the Swedish Warmblood.

During the last two centuries, the breed has been bred pure and is considered to be a warm blood. The Friesian has been used to form the basis of many breeds, such as the Shire, New Forest, Dale, Morgan, Swedish Warmblood, the Orlov Trotter, ...
