The Tibetan Pony comes from the Qinghai-Tibet plateau and are thought to date back 4000 years. This breed is very special to the local people who developed native stock to suit local needs.

The Tibetan Pony is today found in Tibet. It descended from ancient stock, likely partly from the Mongolian Pony and Chinese breeds, although it has been bred pure for years.

The Tibetan pony is held in high regard among the local people and has traditionally always been kept by the wealthy Tibetans and by the famous Dalai Lama, as well as by some of the local farmers.

The Tibetan pony, also called Nanfan, is an all-purpose breed used forriding, agricultural and pack work. It is descended from Chinese andMongolian ponies, and is closely related to the Spiti and Bhutia ponies ofnorthern India, whom it resembles.

They are a riding and pack animal, similar to the Tibetan Pony but less broad. They are most often white (gray) or bay in coloration. Reference: Mason, I.L. 1996. A World Dictionary of Livestock Breeds, Types and Varieties. Fourth Edition. C.A.

The Bhotia Pony is found in Nepal, Bhutan and the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India. They are a riding and pack animal, similar to the Tibetan Pony but less broad. They are most often white (gray) or bay in coloration.
