Over one hundred years ago, in the Middle Basin of Tennessee, a unique breed was created - the Tennessee Walking Horse.

Origins: The Tennessee Walking Horse was developed from Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Standardbreds and Saddlebreds owned by settlers in the 18th century.

Tennessee Walking Horses were developed for the purposes of riding, driving, and light farm work. They also became very popular with Southern plantation owners who called them Plantation Walkers.

Tennessee Walking Horses come in all colors and a variety of patterns. The diverse color choices are sure to please any horse enthusiast. They perform three distinct gaits: the flatfoot walk, running walk and canter.

Tennessee Walking Horse comes in all sizes and colors. Besides being great performance horses in the show ring, they are currently being shown in barrels, poles, jumping, dressage, driving and trail classes.

CHARACTERISTICS
The Tennessee Walking Horse's claim to fame is its unique gait, the running walk.

Like the Morgan, the Tennessee Walking Horse traces to one prepotent120 stallion, a Standardbred trotter named Black Allan, who was foaled in1886. Black Allan contained both Morgan and Hambletonian blood.

Known for their distinctive gait, the Tennessee Walking horse plays an important part in the history of American gaited horses. Their bloodlines were influenced by the plantation economy and needs in the southern part of the U.S.
