Horse WithersWurttemberger

wurttemberger
The Württemberger was developed at the Marbach state stud in Germany in the 17th century. At this time, the stud wanted to breed very versatile horses for riding and driving.

The Wurttemberg existed as an idea long before it existed as a horse. Thebreed was developed because of a need for a strong and thrifty animalcapable of doing all-round work on small mountain farms.

After 1950 the Altwurttemberg was threatened with extinction, however by 1988 in Marbach, Germany, inititives were made to preserve the breed. They exist in limited numbers today.

THE WURTTEMBERGER
The Marbach stud, one of the greatest of the European breeding centers, was founded in 1573. Early in its history it had established a reputation for good utility horses suitable for both riding and light harness work.

The Wurttemberg light horse breed originated at the state owned Marbach stud in Wurttemberg, Germany during the 17th century.

One example was the Babolna Stud of Hungary, set up in 1789, and the Weil stud in Germany (now known as Marbach), founded in 1817 by King Wilhelm I of Wurttemberg.

The Black Forest horse, also known as Schwarzwalder Fuchs, is originally from the southern Germany tow of Baden-Wurttemberg. The Black Forest is located within this town and thus derives the name of the horse.

There they are evaluated along with stallion hopefuls - köraspirants - branded Bavarian Warmblood, Wurttemberger and Saxony-Thuringian, along with some representatives from other regions.
