Abalone is mostly found off the coast of California in the U.S. and Baja California in Mexico. However, it can also be found off the Korean coast.

Abalone Pearls:
Pearls got from this single shelled mollusk is very rare. The reason is over fishing. This thirty million old species is a delicacy and gets fished out before maturity.

Abalone Pearl: A natural pearl cultivated from an abalone, which is a marine gastropod of the genus Haliotis having an ear-shaped shell with a row of holes along the outer edge.

To date, all of the abalone pearls have been natural, but a move is underway to culture pearls in the farms where abalone are raised for their meat.

Awabi PearlThe Japanese name for abalone pearls is Awabi pearls. AxiniteAxinite is an unusual, lustrous stone that is brown, yellow, blue, green or gray. Violet axinite is rare (and from Tasmania). It has both transparent and translucent varieties.

Abalone pearls are found in abalone off the coast of California, Oregon, Alaska, Mexico, Japan, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Abalone pearl is considered to be one of the most beautiful, unusual, and rare pearls of the world and can range from $200 to $2000 per carat.

In addition to those of the pearl oyster, pearls are produced by other molluscs and are generally designated by the name of the mollusc, e.g. abalone pearl, clam pearl, conch pearl, mussel pearl.
