Overview: Ametrine is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine, which are both a variety of quartz. Ametrine is popular among artistic cutters and carvers who play with the colors, creating landscapes in the stone.

Ametrine is a quartz crystal that contains both amethyst and citrine. It is a bi-color gemstone that displays the violets of amethyst and the yellows of citrine. On Mohs' scale of hardness, ametrine ranks 7, just like amethyst and citrine.

Ametrine is most typically faceted in a rectangular shape with a 50/50 pairing of amethyst and citrine. Sometimes a checkerboard pattern of facets is added to the top to increase light reflection.

AMETRINE
When quartz crystals form yellow in color (Citrine) on one end and purple in color (Amethyst) on the other end, the result is Ametrine. The two colors are more visible in larger stones and are generally cut in the Emerald Cut shape.

Ametrine: A naturally occurring variety of quartz. It is a mixture of amethyst and citrine with zones of purple and yellow or orange. The colour of the zones visible within ametrine are due to differing oxidation states of iron within the crystal.
