Anodized metal has been through an electrochemical process which changes the structure of the surface layer, giving it a thin, protective film. Aluminium is often anodized, as is magnesium, titanium, and tantalum.

 


Anodized: An "anode" is the positive end of an electrical circuit. In the anodization process, a metal object is placed in an acid bath and an electrical current is passed through the tank.

Many metals can be anodized, although Titanium and Niobium are the two most common body piercing metals to go through this chemical process.

It can be anodized (link to anodized) to add colors.

Anodizing is a process used to dye and/or modify the surface of a metal using electrolysis. The dye enters the pores in the etched oxide surface of the metal. Usually metals like aluminum, magnesium, titanium and tantalum are often anodized.
