AXINITE
Overview: The name Axinite is from the Greek acine (meaning "axe") for the axe-like shape of the original crystal formations. Axinite is composed of several different ions.

Axinite: A Cyclosilicate Group
On an excursion in the Alps in 1797, mineralogist, R. J. Hauy discovered some highly vitreous, piezio-electric wedged-shaped crystals that resembled schorl, the dark variety of tourmaline.

Axinite: An unusual, lustrous stone that is bi-colored in brown, yellow, blue, green or gray. Violet axinite, from Tasmania, is rare. It is used only as a mineral specimen and not in jewelry.

Axinite"Minor silicate of striking crystal form and color.
Benitoite"Very blue, very rare and weird ring silicate mineral.
Beryl"Gemstone of many names, including emerald.

Axinite: Is a dichroic, boro-silicate of aluminum and calcium, stone that is lustrous and has translucent as well as transparent varieties.

Fine-quality, brown colored stones have been cut from axinite from deposits in Calaveras, Madera, Riverside, and San Diego Counties. Benitoite, the State gemstone, is the collector/specialty stone for which the State is best known.

Many minerals (like rubies and axinite) are naturally dichroic. This effect can be artificially caused by a thin layer of a metallic oxides that is deposited on the surface of a material.

In this system comprises all the crystals are with three axes which are not equal in length and are oblique to one another. Of all the crystal systems, crystals of this system are the least symmetrical. A good example is the Brazilian Axinite.

Silicon and oxygen are the two most abundant elements of the Earth's crust, and the conditions for the formation of quartz (SiO2) are relatively common, so it is understandable that quartz is found widely. Axinite on the other hand, ...

Crystals of this system possess no mirror planes. The holomorphic class demonstrates a center of inversion symmetry.
Mineral species of the triclinic class include plagioclase and axinite; these species tend to be of tabular habit.

into the dioritic intrusion, since toward the west, in contact with the biotiteamphibole granite, the vein cluster is thinner and more sparse, and is replaced by breaks of the alpine cleft type containing adularia, chlorite, epidote and axinite.

It is a single face termed a pedion and the class called the pedial class after its {hkl} form. Because the form consists of a single face, each pedion or monohedron stands by itself. Rare is the mineral that crystallizes in this class, axinite ...
