Brilliance
Before we discuss brilliance in diamonds, it might help to give a few dictionary definitions.

Brilliance and Sparkle!
Above all else, how much Light, Fire and Scintillation a Diamond gives off is the ultimate goal.

Brilliance and luster:
Diamond's true adamantine luster comes from its excellent transparency and high refractive index of 2.418. Its brilliance is penetrating to the extent that it triggers our senses to produce diverse feelings.

Brilliance
Brilliance refers to the amount of light returned to the eye from the interior of a gem and is mainly a function of refractive index, proportions and transparency.

BRILLIANCE:
The reflection and refraction of light displayed through a diamond or gemstone.

When evaluating a diamond for brilliance, you should look at it both with and without magnification. The light source should be diffused, such as a fluorescent or shaded lamp.

Brilliance: The brightness that seems to come from the very heart of a diamond. It is the effect that makes diamonds unique among all other gemstones.

Brilliance is Key
The dimensions of the Blue Nile Signature diamond are very specific, leaving no room for error. If a diamond is cut even slightly out of proportion, it may yield more carat weight but it will not be as brilliant.

Brilliance
Intensity of the internal and external reflections of white light from the crown of a polished diamond or other gemstone. Hardness, refractive index, reflectivity, polish, lustre and proportions all affect a gemstone's brilliance.

Brilliance: Cutting a diamond to the correct proportions increases the reflection of light from the facets and maximizes the brilliance. Brilliance is a combination of luster, light reflection, total reflection, color dispersion and scintillation.

Brilliance
Brilliance is the total amount of light reflected by a diamond. When light hits the diamond's surface, some light enters and some is reflected back. The most immediate light reflected back is returned by the crown's angles.

Brilliance: The brightness created by the combination of all the white light reflections from the surface and the inside of a polished diamond. A more properly proportioned cut results in a more brilliant diamond.

BRILLIANCE - Total amount of white light returned to the eye from a diamond or colored stone as the result of internal and external reflections.

Brilliance
The total amount of white light, both external and internal, returned from the diamond to the eye of the observer.

brilliance The total quantity of light refracted and reflected (from a gemstone) back to the eye of the viewer.

Brilliance: Liveliness, or sparkle in a stone when light is reflected from the surface and from the total internal reflection of light.

Brilliance - Brilliance is the reflection and refraction of light displayed through a stone.

Brilliance
Brilliance describes the reflections of white light returned to the eye from a gemstone.

brilliance - When used in reference to a gem, it refers to the brightness of the stone, which is related to the surface polish and the internal reflection of light from the back facets.

Brilliance: the amount of light that a
cut gemstone reflects back to the
viewer from the interior of the stone. Brilliance is a consequence of cut and ...

brilliance The richness or intensity of reflections of white light in the face-up position.
brillianteerer The diamond cutter who specializes in the last forty facets of the brilliant cut. See brillianteering.

Brilliance: The amount of sparkle a stone gives off through reflection and refraction of light.

Brilliance
Brilliance refers to the sparkle caused by light reflecting off the facets of a gemstone.

brilliance
The brightness that appears to emanate from within a diamond, due to the reflection of light that falls on the table back through the same facet

hidden brilliance
Today, most people admire diamonds for two exceptional attributes: their hardness and their brilliance.

Brilliance, Polish and Symmetry of a Diamond
Cut of a diamond affects its Brilliance (reflection of light), whereas Polish (smoothness of facets) and Symmetry (alignment of facets) affect the sparkle of a diamond.

Brilliance
brilliance is the white light that is reflected through the top of a diamond. This can be increase by the diamond being cut to the correct proportions to take advantage of the reflection of light from the facets to the brilliance.

Brilliance: A sign of a well cut diamond. Brilliance includes light reflection, refraction and dispersion. The better a diamond reflects the light, the more brilliant it will be considered.

Brilliance: The amount of white light reflected that radiates from the diamond's surface. A more properly proportioned cut results in a more brilliant diamond.
Brilliant Cut: A round diamond that contains 58 facets.

Brilliance: describes how well a diamond reflects white light.
Carat: is a unit of weight measurement used for weighing diamonds. For more information see The 4 Cs of Diamonds ...

Brilliance

Brilliance of color and color pattern are critical in determining the value of opal. Opals with strong flashes of red fire are generally the most prized. Stones with blue or green flashes are more common and subsequently less valuable.

Brilliance - The amount of light allowed to reflect from inside the diamond or gemstone based on the quality of its cut.
Brilliant cut - Can be any shape gemstone, but must have 57 or 58 facet cuts.

The brilliance of blue in aquamarine goes very well with any eye color or complexion type. - The lightness of the color beautifully complements both the formal and informal outfits.

The brilliance of an exquisite piece of diamond is most importantly determined by the cut which has been used to give it a polished look. The cut of a diamond enhances its beauty.

The brilliance of the play of color is the most important factor.

Brilliance
The light that is reflected from the diamond to the eye, or the amount of sparkle for a particular diamond.

Yield vs Brilliance, Clarity and Color: Faceting is a series of compromises.

"Fire" and "brilliance" are terms that describe the intensity of the color and brightness of the light seen in a diamond.

The brilliance of your diamond comes from the way it reflects light from its many faceted surfaces and refraction of light from within—a result of symmetry. The better the proportions, the greater the dispersion and fire.

For superior brilliance, choose a diamond with a Cut grade of Very Good or Excellent for round diamonds, and Good or better in fancy shape diamonds.

Zircon's fire, brilliance, and beauty can rival any gem. The affordability of its vibrant greens, sky blues, and pleasing earth tones contributes to its growing popularity today.

Cut Determines Brilliance
The diamond's proportions, specifically the depth compared to the diameter, and the diameter of the table compared to the diameter of the diamond, determine how well light will reflect and refract within the diamond.

The Word "brilliance" is possibly derived from the ancient greek word for beryl, "berullos", which means crystal.
