Carat weight is the physical weight of the diamond. A carat is a unit of weight measurement for diamonds and colored gemstones. One carat is divided into 100 points, with each point equaling 1/100th (.01) of a carat (ct.).

A carat is a very accurate unit of weight that is used for diamonds and gemstones.

Weight in gems is calculated in metric carats, where five carats equal one gram. Generally, as a gem's weight increases, so does the per-carat price.

We list the minimum carat weight for some of our gemstones and jewelry. These minimums are calculated by adding all grades or measurements that comprise the inventory either of similar items or in a lot, and determining the lowest weight.

A diamond's value is based on the "4 C's": color, cut, clarity, and carat weight. A diamond's color (saturation) is rated on an alphabetical scale ranging from D (white) to Y (yellow). "Z" diamonds are fancy, or deep-colored diamond.

Our first item to evaluate will be carat weight. Carat weight is exactly that; a weight rather than a measurement. The word 'carat' originates from the Greek name for carob or locust tree.

Just like all gemstones, the weight of a diamond is measured in carats. A carat is a metric unit of measurement that is exactly 1/5 of a gram (0.20). That means there are 5 carats to a gram.

But, the carat weight alone is almost meaningless unless you also consider the cut, clarity and color of the diamond. A large diamond is not very valuable if it lacks brilliance, purity and high-grade color.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to a diamond's carat weight is that it is not the only factor that determines a diamond's value. In other words, bigger does not necessarily mean better.

Because round brilliant cuts follow exact standards, you can make a good estimate of the carat weight of the stone based on the stone's diameter.

Customers are primarily concerned with basic the main four features at the time of purchasing diamonds which are mostly known as "Carat Weight","Cut","Colour"and"Clarity".

In order to cut a stone to ideal proportions, much of the rough diamond is sacrificed, leaving a stone with a smaller carat weight. Diamond cutters sometimes sacrifice ideal proportions to end up with a larger, more profitable stone.
