The Cartouche signifies divine royalty and in ancient Egypt it was the symbol within which a pharaoh's name was enclosed.

Common themes were scarabs, cartouches, lotus blossoms, etc. Electroforming: A jewelry manufacturing technique in which a wax model of an item has metal adhered to it via electrical current.

In ancient Egypt, the Pharaohs wore a particular kind of pendants known as cartouche which was rectangular in shape with the name of the Pharaoh inscribed on it. It was believed that this would protect against all evil.

They are generally small, bored to allow stringing on a necklace, and the base bears a brief inscription or cartouche. Some have been used as seals.
