Fancy Colored Diamonds
Although majority of diamonds come in shades of white, there are also "Fancy" natural intensely colored diamonds available in colors like yellow, pink, greens, brown, red, orange, blue etc.

Fancy-colored diamonds are an exciting choice, but the cost of a very fine pink or canary diamond, for instance, can be prohibitively expensive. If you like color, another option is to set off a white center diamond with colored side stones.

Yellow colored diamonds ownership is a rare privilege and they are appreciated and sought out by collectors and specialist jewelers worldwide.

Though fancy colored diamonds rarely occur in nature, laboratories can easily create them through irradiation and heating. This process can permanently turn a natural colorless diamond into a fancy in a wide range of colors.

While natural colored diamonds are quite expensive, gemologists have developed new ways to create versions that are affordable for the average person. They do this by treating the less desirable diamonds with irradiation followed by intense heat.

The colors in colored diamonds come from impurities between the cells of the crystals, or structural defects.

Because natural colored diamonds are rare and can be quite expensive, diamond treatments are common, and make it possible for more of us to own a color diamond.

Sadly, most Fancy Colored Diamonds are NOT this large in Carat Weight, or this Vivid in Color. Most Fancy Colors are often only 20 Points or smaller in size and most Fancy Colors on the market have been Heat Treated to enhance their Color.

These "fancy" colored diamonds are highly-prized.
Occasionally, to improve appearance, diamonds are laser-drilled and, sometimes, a foreign substance is used to fill surface cavities or fractures.

The vast majority of collectors collect colored diamonds. No other jewel combines the rarity, beauty and sex appeal of a colored diamond. Let's face reality. The majority of white diamonds are not rare.

Red diamond: The rarest of all fancy-colored diamonds. Ruby red stones are virtually unknown. Most so-called red diamonds are actually reddish-brown, rose-colored or pale pink stones.
