ELECTROPLATED SILVER
Until recently electroplated silver was scorned by many collectors, but now that sterling silver is beyond the price range of modest collectors (except for very small pieces) good quality EPNS is much sought after.

Beads are mostly electroplated with gold or silver. The thickness of the plating determines the price of the bead and the plating thickness is measured in mils. Gold or silver overlay (also called Filling) work is also used to coat the beads.

A dark black cannot be achieved in this way on gold or platinum, electroplated antiquing is dark gray only, though dvb considers it to be superior for its permanence.

In jewelry, inexpensive metals are frequently electroplated with more expensive metals, like gold (gold plating), copper (electrocoppering), rhodium (rhodanizing), chromium (chromium plating), or silver (silver plating).

An electroplated application of gold or silver is applied to the metal to give it a gold or silver color.
