They can occur anywhere on a stone but are usually found in the vicinity of the girdle (Fig 323).

Extra facets: These are formed when the raw stone is being processed at cutting stage. In order to remove the natural inclusions the stone is cut that result in the extra facets (sides). It is done to enhance the clarity.

Extra Facets: small facets placed to remove imperfections; not part of the cutting style. (Not to be confused with Added Facets which are added symmetrically and are part of the cutting style.) ...

Facet Facets are the small flat surfaces of a glass, crystal or gemstone bead. These polished, flat planes are a major determining factor in enhancing the bead's ability to sparkle or reflect light.

Extra facets: Facets in excess of those needed to achieve a given style of cutting. They usually result from polishing away nicks, chips, naturals, etc., on or near the surface.

Facets: The number of angles cut into a diamond. The more facets the shinier the diamonds appearence.
Finish: As you may expect, this is the quality of the diamond's workmanship.
Make: The cut and proportion of a diamond.

Facets act as mirrors reflecting light that enters the stone. This essentially means more the reflection, better the brilliance.

Facets are the small angles and cuts of a polished diamond or gemstone. A typical brilliant cut round diamond has 58 facets.

Facets - Diamond facets are the smooth surface areas of a diamond which have been cut, polished and positioned at different angles which allow light to enter and reflect back from the stone.

Facets: The area of the diamond that is cut and polished in such a way to maximize the brilliance of the light that enters the stone from all angles. There are many different shapes and cuts of facets, depending on the shape of the ring.

There are many popular diamond shapes.

Brilliance - the light that is reflected out of the gem; it is created from the light bouncing off internal facets.
Carat - weight equivalent to one-fifth of a gram; used to weigh gemstones.
Chatoyancy - "cat's-eye" effect in gem materials.

Brilliant cut: Collective name for gemstone cuts where the lower facets radiate from the center of the gem. Round cut is the most common.

Brilliant Cut:A specific diamond cut that has exactly 58 facets. A brilliant cut can have several shapes: round, oval, radiant (square), as well as pear-shaped or heart-shaped. Cable Chain:A chain style featuring uniform, round links.
