Fancy Color Diamonds
When seeking that special diamond, keep one thing in mind - it is not all black and WHITE. Diamonds occur in every color of the rainbow and then some.

Fancy Color Diamonds
While 'colorless' diamonds are the most popular, they are just one category of diamonds. The other category of natural stones is known as 'fancy color diamonds.

Fancy Colors
Not all Diamond Color is bad. In fact, some Diamonds with Color are way more expensive than their White alternatives of the same Clarity, Cut and Carat Weight.

Rare and very expensive, colored or "fancy" diamonds are becoming ever more popular. These diamonds reflect the colors of the rainbow and dazzle in brilliant combinations of red, pink, blue, yellow, orange, green and brown.

Although majority of diamonds come in shades of white, there are also "Fancy" natural intensely colored diamonds available in colors like yellow, pink, greens, brown, red, orange, blue etc.

A diamond with natural colors present. The natural color is a result of trace elements being present during the diamond's creation. A fancy color diamond is considered to be more valuable with the most vibrant colors.

Though fancy colored diamonds rarely occur in nature, laboratories can easily create them through irradiation and heating. This process can permanently turn a natural colorless diamond into a fancy in a wide range of colors.

Natural fancy color diamonds are found all over the world, including Australia, Africa, South America and Africa.

So-called 'fancy color diamonds' come in more intense colors, like yellow and blue, but these are not graded on the same scale.

Fancy colored diamonds are valued by the intensity of their color concentration. All colored diamonds belong to the carbon family. The difference of the color is the result of the different molecular structures of the crystals.

Effect of color on price: In general, as the amount of yellow in the stone increases, the value of a diamond decreases, that is until the fancy color grades are reached, and then the value goes up again.

A new supply of unheated, fancy color change (purple to blue) Burma sapphire has recently entered the market. In the best cases, these goods are beautiful with a deep color saturation and an obvious color change.

One of the best kept secrets of the Tanzanite trade is the incredibly rare occurence of fancy color Tanzanites that are occasionally discovered.

Fancy colors such as pink, red, blue and green are discovered each year, but they are very rare and incredibly expensive. Such fancy colors do not follow the normal color/pricing scales and are categorized separately.

"Fancy colors" are those colors outside the normal range, and are found in all colors. The most sought after are colorless, and the more intense "fancy colors", blue, pink and red.

Other colors such as green, blue, rosé and red are rarer and are collectively described as "fancy colors." The most frequent fancy colors are brownish hues and black.

More should be said about the effects of heat-treating techniques on Montana sapphires, and the variety of fancy colored sapphires available. Not all Montana sapphires are suitable for heat- treating because of variations in chemical composition.

Diamonds outside the normal color range are called fancy colored. Graded as Z+, fancy colored diamonds come in a variety of colors like red (the rarest), pink, violet, blue, green, and bright yellow, known as "canary.

Although the production of colorless synthetic diamonds is dwarfed by that of natural diamonds, one can only find one fancy colored diamond for every 10.000 colorless ones.

Fancy colored diamonds are not white diamonds with poor color grades. True yellow diamonds can be comparable to white diamonds, but are graded on a different color scale. Certified yellow diamonds are treasured for the color they exhibit.

Color: Diamonds are graded on a color scale established by the GIA. Fancy colors refer to diamonds with hues like pink, blue, green, yellow, and very rarely red. Fancy colors are not included in this color scale and are considered extremely rare.
