Fire agate is a brown, microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) which has a botryoidal (grape-like) growth form, and which contains layers of plate-like crystals of iron oxide (limonite) in various planes within it.
Usage: Fire Agate is known for its healing qualities as well as its connection to the energies of the earth. It promotes and enhances energy, including meditation, ritual, and spiritual healing energies.

Fire Agate: The formation process of this variety is quite distinctive. Like all it is also produced during the volcanic eruption or in basalt. It is layered in one micro-thin layer in vugs from hydrothermal solution at a time.

Fire agate is a gemstone that shows this phenomenon to good effect. When iridescence occurs in metallic hues (called schiller) in labradorite, it is commonly called labradorescence. In pearls, the subtle iridescence present is called orient.
