After the adoption of the 200mg carat, the decimal standard came into use. In the trade, a one carat gemstone, specifically the diamond, is still referred to as a 'four grainer', and the 0.75 carat diamond as the 'three grainer'.

In contrast, Asian markets used grains of rice to measure their goods and you may still hear some jewelers refer to a single carat diamond as a "four grainer" since one carat was once considered to be equal to the weight of four grains of rice.
