Larimar is a rare form of pectolite, which was discovered in the 1970's and is only found in the Dominican Republic. It has an extraordinary blue appearance similar to the color of the ocean in tropical areas.

LARIMAR
Larimar is a form of pectolite (with copper) found only in a single place in the Dominican Republic. It is an opaque sky blue stone with white streaks. There are often some red to brown impurities.

The pectolite to serandite series, where manganese replaces calcium, furnishes cabachon material of various colors that include the lovely blue variety of larimar, found in the Dominican Republic.

In 1828, the stone was discovered in Mont Balto and Mont Monzoni (Italy). Few decades ago, in the Dominician Republic, an ocean blue variety of pectolite was discovered. It was given the name of Larimar.
